Online Wagering in North Carolina Hits New High With $814 Million Handle

orth Carolina bettors kept the momentum rolling in November as online sportsbooks crossed another major milestone. A fresh monthly handle record arrived for the third straight time, pushed by football season and the early wave of winter sports.

Good to Know

  • November handle reached $814 million, edging past October by $2.5 million
  • Operators collected $92.9 million in revenue, the second-highest monthly total to date
  • Tax contributions reached $16.7 million and pushed the yearly sum past $117 million

Another Record Handle Driven by Packed Sports Calendar

The North Carolina State Lottery Commission confirmed that November handle came in at $813,973,743, topping the state all-time high for the third month in a row. The number also marked a 27 percent jump compared to last year and only the second time wagers cleared the $800 million mark.

Football drove much of the action again, but the return of college basketball — combined with steady wagering on the NBA and NHL — helped push volume to new heights. It is the ninth time the state passed the $600 million threshold since online wagering launched in March 2024.

Operators Deliver Strong Revenue as Win Rate Climbs

Eight online operators reached $92,936,199 in monthly gross revenue, trailing only April 2024 for the top spot in state history. The year-over-year jump came in at nearly 19 percent, and since the market went live, operators have now accumulated more than $1.2 billion in gross revenue.

The win rate played a major role. North Carolina sportsbooks posted an 11.4 percent hold for November, the strongest result of the current football season. However, the figure still sits outside the state top five due to several unusually high months earlier in the market lifecycle.

For 2025, November hold ranked fourth behind June at 13.4 percent, April at 11.6 percent, and January at 11.5 percent. In 2024, the state had four separate months above 12 percent.

Tax Revenue Rises While Bettors See Slight Dip in Payouts

Bettors collected $717.5 million in winnings during November, a small 1.5 percent dip from October as operator revenue climbed month-over-month by 12.6 percent. Tax payments from online operators totaled $16,728,516 — a boost of roughly $2.7 million from October — pushing North Carolina annual tax receipts past $117 million.

Promotional wagering dropped to $22.3 million, sliding from $27.1 million in October and falling 30 percent from September, the first full football month. Canceled and voided wagers also declined by nearly $1 million, adding a bit more stability to the final financial picture.
